Message from District President’s Desk
“The youth wing of Lions Clubs International, Leo Clubs are comprised of a bunch of energetic, bold and dynamic leaders specially groomed by the experienced Lions with a view to giving us an Opportunity to enhance our Leadership qualities and thereby provide the necessary Experience to become future Lions, This process imbibes excellence and exposes us to opportunities from around the world that allows us to turn every hurdle into milestone of success.”
Keeping this in mind, the theme for L.Y. 2020-21 is,
PARIVARTAN: Transform to Reform.
This Leoistic Year is about transforming ideas into action and reforming our paths to achieve those actions. Change is inevitable, but transformation is by conscious choice. Our consistent efforts to transform ourselves and communities around us for the greater good will make a world of difference. Today, tomorrow and everyday, we Leos of 322G commit ourselves towards the betterment of self and society. For us, transformation shouldn’t be a future event. It is a present day activity.
An organisation is just as powerful as the people who work in it. Leos are the core strength of the Leo movement. No mission, vision or plan can be implemented without the ones who dedicate themselves to its success. I am fortunate to have a membership that is fully committed to the Lion ideal of We Serve. Leo clubs cannot be and will not be without those who give them life. And those are the most important assets of this organisation. Without this important resource, we cannot boast of our achievements. That asset is our Leos. They continue to go the extra mile in building this community, and carrying out the many worthwhile projects that we undertake for the benefit of our society. We will together work hard to forge ahead with the mandate that we’ve been given. I shall build on and sustain the energetic momentum we have.
इंसान जो कुछ भी सोच सकता हैं और उस पर विश्वास कर सकता हैं, वो उसे हासिल भी कर सकता हैं|
And as we do so, we shall seek to go a notch higher for the sake of realizing the noble mission and goal of our District.
Our compassion and our ability to open our hearts to those in need, combined with our commitment to share our time, talent, and treasures with those who are less fortunate, is what causes ordinary Leos such as ourselves to do the extraordinary things that we do. That is what makes Leoism so magical.
I do not doubt that we have the potential, energy and capacity to succeed ahead. As men and women of integrity, we will continue to fellowship passionately, carry and uphold the true spirit of “Leadership, Experience and Opportunity” or as I say it, “Opportunity to experience leadership”.
एक-साथ आना एक शुरुआत है; एक साथ रहना प्रगति है; एक साथ काम करना सफलता है।
The past is staring at us, the present remains a challenge and the future bids us to press on forward to our ultimate destiny, and, that ultimate destiny, is to make the world a better place.
Long Live Leoism!
What is Leo Movement?
Leo Clubs are a youth organization of Lions Clubs International. The word “LEO” stands for Leadership, Experience, Opportunity.
Leo Clubs are sponsored by Lions clubs and comprise an official program of Lions Clubs International. As its youngest members, Leos embody the best qualities of our incredible organization. They are devoted young people who realize the power of action and work together to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service activities. Together, Leos and Lions form a powerful partnership—one of mutual respect, where Lions learn from the innovative insights of Leos, and where Leos gain access to the proven strategies of those who’ve successfully served the world for decades. They conduct various projects in the fields of health care, elders, children, differently abled people, literacy and education, and self-development.
There are two tracks of the Leo Club Program i.e the Alpha Leo Clubs and the Omega Leo Clubs . Alpha Leo clubs are those that consist of members between 12 – 18 years of age. Omega Leo clubs are those that consist of members between 18 – 35 years of age.
Coach Jim Graver started the Leo ball rolling in 1957 and chances are that ball was a baseball. Graver was the baseball coach of the Abington High School in Pennsylvania, USA and an active member of the Glenside Lions Club. With help from his fellow Lion, William Ernst, the first Leo club was charted on December 5, 1957.
As the world’s first Leo Club, the Abington High School Leo Club created the Leo acronym – Leadership, Equality, Opportunity – and chose their school colors, maroon and gold to serve as the Leo club colors. Later, Equality was changed to Experience.
In October 1967, the Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International adopted the Leo Club Program as an official program of the association.
The Leo Club Program has been continuously growing since the past 50 years. Leos now constitute an international network of over 6,500 clubs in over 140 countries. Community service remains the cornerstone of the program, fostering a lifetime commitment to helping others. Like their Lion counterparts, Leo club members enjoy serving their neighbors and watching positive results unfold.
